On the evening of December 11 (local time), U.S. President Trump put pen to paper on an executive order entitled "Ensuring the Development of a National AI Policy Framework." This order aims to streamline AI regulatory rules at the federal level, curbing states' ability to independently craft related regulations and preventing the enforcement of existing state-level AI laws.

The executive order highlights the current predicament: with each state devising its own set of AI regulatory rules, the result is a disjointed patchwork of 50 distinct regulatory systems. This fragmented approach not only makes compliance a daunting task but also poses significant disadvantages, especially for startups that may lack the resources to navigate such a complex landscape.

To address this issue, the executive order will set nationwide standards that impose "minimal burdens" on businesses and innovators. Furthermore, it mandates the Attorney General to assemble a special task force dedicated to AI litigation. This task force will be tasked with challenging state laws that run counter to the executive order, thereby ensuring a more cohesive and uniform regulatory environment for AI development across the United States.
