OpenAI has called on the Trump administration to reform the tax credit policy in the Chip Act to reduce the costs of artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company is exploring how the government can support the construction of AI data centers. In a letter sent last week to Michael Kratsios, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Chris Lehane, OpenAI's chief global affairs officer, suggested that the government should work with Congress to expand the existing 35% chip tax credit policy to cover AI data centers, AI server manufacturers, and power grid components such as transformers and special steel. The letter, dated October 27, has been published online. Lehane stated that expanding the tax credits would lower capital costs, reduce early-stage investment risks, and unlock private capital to accelerate AI construction in the United States.
