On Friday, OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, once again expressed his wish for the United States to widen the range of tax incentives provided under the CHIPS Act. Earlier, OpenAI's Chief Global Affairs Officer had penned a letter to the White House, advocating for the extension of the Advanced Manufacturing Investment Credit (AMIC) to encompass fields like AI server production. Altman highlighted that the reindustrialization of the U.S. industrial landscape would yield benefits across various sectors and underscored that these tax credits should not be conflated with loan guarantees for OpenAI. Previously, OpenAI had engaged in discussions with the U.S. government regarding the utilization of federal loan guarantees to spur the establishment of chip manufacturing facilities, pledging to invest a staggering $1.4 trillion in computing resources over the forthcoming eight years. Given the robust demand for AI products, technology firms are gearing up to construct data centers and innovate in chip development. However, White House officials have clarified that the federal government does not intend to specifically intervene in the AI industry.
