On October 27, 2025, Google in the United States announced that it would restart the Duane Arnold Energy Center nuclear power plant in Iowa to supply power for its artificial intelligence infrastructure. The nuclear power plant, which was closed in 2020, is scheduled to resume operations in 2029 to meet Google's growing power demands for cloud and AI infrastructure in Iowa. The two parties have signed a 25-year power purchase agreement.
