On October 28, during the 18th session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress, a resolution was approved to amend the Cybersecurity Law. The updated legislation is slated to become effective on January 1, 2026. Since its initial implementation in 2016, the original Cybersecurity Law has been a cornerstone legal structure within the cybersecurity domain. The purpose of this amendment is to keep pace with evolving situations and demands, bolster legal accountabilities, and improve alignment with pertinent laws. In response to the demands of artificial intelligence (AI) governance and advancement, the revised law explicitly articulates that the state will endorse the research and development of crucial AI technologies, aiming to foster their utilization and sound growth.
