Goldman Sachs is making a bold foray into the data center sector and other infrastructure financing arenas, with the strategic goal of capturing a more substantial market share amidst the artificial intelligence (AI) boom. To realize this ambition, the investment banking giant has created a specialized team within its Global Banking and Markets division. This team is exclusively dedicated to global infrastructure financing, encompassing enhanced lending initiatives and the identification of investors for debt placements.
The impetus behind this strategic move is the emergence of a fresh wave of multibillion-dollar infrastructure transactions. The newly formed team will not limit its focus to AI data centers alone; it will also extend its expertise to the financing of construction and upgrade projects for traditional infrastructure. This includes providing financial support for renewable energy initiatives, certain liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects, as well as military equipment and other assets tied to the upsurge in defense expenditures.
