On October 15, 2025, the Ascending Ecosystem team at Huawei officially made the openPangu-Ultra-MoE-718B-V1.1 large model open source within the GitCode community. At the same time, they unveiled its Int8 quantized version. This move offers developers a cost-efficient option for large-scale Mixture of Experts (MoE) models. In the context of the English-speaking tech world, making a model open source like this is a significant step as it promotes collaboration and innovation within the developer community. The model, which was trained on Ascending NPU, features a staggering 718 billion parameters in total, with 39 billion active parameters. This impressive specification has placed it third on the overall open-source model leaderboard in SuperCLUE, a well-recognized benchmark in the field.
