In recent years, the broad application of generative AI has set off a series of layoffs, leaving even contract workers who contribute to AI development in the lurch. Over the past month, Google has unexpectedly laid off over 200 contract workers engaged in AI projects. This wave of layoffs occurs amidst a growing sense of dissatisfaction among employees regarding compensation and working conditions. Previously, Google had already gone through multiple rounds of downsizing, including within its key advertising large customer sales and technical support teams. This was mainly a result of the enhanced efficiency brought about by the newly launched AI advertising assistant system.

At the same time, Google has launched a 'voluntary resignation program' targeting core departments like search and advertising. Furthermore, the company has mandated that some remote employees return to the office in an effort to boost collaboration efficiency.

In addition, other tech behemoths such as Microsoft and Amazon have also implemented layoffs, primarily driven by the efficiency improvements stemming from AI implementation.
