Toyota Motor's manufacturing hub in Thailand has announced plans to source components from Chinese manufacturers for its upcoming electric vehicle, set for release in 2028. This strategic move aims to bolster cost competitiveness and marks a significant shift in the regional supply chain landscape. To facilitate this transition, Toyota has brokered a joint venture between Thailand's Summit Group and Chinese enterprises, enabling the production of Chinese-made parts within Thailand itself. This development heralds a major transformation in the Southeast Asian automotive supply chain, traditionally dominated by Japanese firms.
