Volkswagen has temporarily ceased delivering an electric car model to the US market. A company spokesperson attributed this partly to the US market's dissatisfaction with the seat width of the vehicle. However, insiders have disclosed that the primary reason lies in the punitive measure imposed by the US government, which hiked tariffs on European-made imported cars from 2.5% to 27.5% starting in April. According to projections by investment bank Bernstein, this tariff increase could incur losses exceeding 11 billion euros for German automakers this year.
