Viking Line aims to revolutionize maritime transportation in the Gulf of Finland by introducing the "Helios," the world's largest electric passenger ferry. Designed to minimize carbon emissions, this ferry boasts a battery capacity ranging from 85 to 100 megawatt-hours, allowing it to carry up to 2,000 passengers and cargo at a speed of approximately 23 knots. With a length of 195 meters, Helios represents a substantial advancement in sustainable shipping. Viking Line has submitted a funding application to the European Union Innovation Fund, with operations expected to commence in the early 2030s. This initiative underscores a significant stride towards achieving zero-emission shipping in the Baltic Sea region.
