Tesla has recently introduced a trade-in program for Cybertruck owners, marking the first time such an option has been available. Nonetheless, the Cybertruck's market performance has been underwhelming, with CarGurus data indicating a depreciation rate of up to 45%. Last week, Business Insider interviewed two Cybertruck owners who shared Tesla's valuation of their vehicles. A 2024 Cybertruck AWD Foundation Series, originally priced at $100,000 and driven for approximately 9,656 kilometers, was valued at only $65,400 during the trade-in process, representing a depreciation rate of 34.6%, equivalent to a depreciation of approximately RMB 250,000. This depreciation rate significantly surpasses the average annual depreciation rate of 20% for conventional pickup trucks, signaling low market acceptance. Tesla's decision to initiate the trade-in program could be a strategic move to alleviate inventory pressure.
