On May 21, Business Insider reported that during an interview with CNBC reporter David Faber, Elon Musk was asked about the proposal to acquire Uber. Musk promptly responded, stating that "there's no need" for such an acquisition. He expressed his belief that the future will see individuals summoning autonomous Tesla vehicles for ride-hailing services, thereby obviating the necessity of Uber. Musk further revealed that Tesla intends to launch an autonomous taxi service in Austin next month, comprising both Tesla's own fleet and vehicles voluntarily contributed by car owners who can earn income by providing autonomous driving services.
