The European Union's policy of imposing steep tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles is showing signs of a potential reversal, which could significantly reshape the competitive dynamics within the automotive industry between China and Europe. According to a Reuters report on April 10, European Commission spokesperson Rovskis revealed that the EU and China have agreed to explore establishing a minimum price for Chinese-made electric vehicles. This proposed measure is set to replace the original high tariff plan, which was scheduled to come into effect in 2024. The objective behind this shift is to safeguard the profit margins of automakers' products and prevent companies from incurring losses due to the previously envisaged high tariffs.
