On April 6, the UK government announced a relaxation of the mandatory requirements for the annual proportion of electric vehicle sales by companies, aiming to facilitate a seamless transition to electrification within the automotive manufacturing industry. While the 2030 ban on the sale of new gasoline vehicles remains a steadfast objective, companies will now have the flexibility to adjust the proportion of electric vehicle sales across different years, thereby avoiding hefty fines. Additionally, UK Prime Minister Starmer pledged to reduce non-compliance fines from £15,000 to £12,000 and to invest £2.3 billion in vehicle purchase tax relief and the construction of charging infrastructure.
