Volkswagen intends to introduce an electric vehicle (EV) priced at approximately €20,000 for the European market in 2027, aiming to achieve this competitive pricing by slashing battery costs. Leveraging software co-developed by Volkswagen and Rivian, the model will minimize electronic control units and wiring, subsequently lightening the vehicle and streamlining the manufacturing process. By 2027, Volkswagen anticipates launching eight affordable EVs, with the ID.2 model priced at around €24,000. Despite the current scarcity of low-cost EV options in Europe, this year will witness the debut of 11 new models, such as the Renault R5, Fiat Panda, and Hyundai Ioniq 5. To rival Chinese competitors, Volkswagen is slashing production capacity and costs to focus on developing more budget-friendly electric vehicles.
