At the 2026 Global Chinese Automotive Elite Joint Annual Conference and the "China Embraces the World" Automotive Industry International Development Forum, held from October 29 to 30, Eric Esperance, a partner at Roland Berger (Paris), predicted that by 2030, Chinese automakers' sales in Europe will reach 2.7 million vehicles, of which 37% will be achieved through local production. This capacity will be built through two parallel paths: greenfield investment and the revitalization of idle European production capacity. Regarding the overseas expansion of supply chain enterprises, he recommended that Chinese automakers take a step-by-step approach—starting with joint ventures with core customers and gradually expanding their local European customer base. He also noted that enterprises must squarely confront the core differences between Chinese and European business cultures in decision-making pace, communication logic, and work philosophy. He emphasized that EU tariff policies and local content rules have created substantial structural pressure, and that advancing deep localized operations is the only way for Chinese automakers to achieve large-scale development in Europe.
