German taxi operator Munich Taxi Center (MTZ) signed a letter of intent with US autonomous driving company Tensor Auto on Tuesday, with plans to deploy autonomous taxis in Germany. This move indicates that taxi operators are actively seeking to secure a larger share in Europe's emerging autonomous mobility market. According to the agreement, MTZ will operate up to 500 autonomous vehicles under its own brand in cities across Germany, while Tensor Auto will provide autonomous driving technology support through a subscription model. Tensor Auto's approach aims to allow taxi operators to retain control over fleet operations, customer relationships, and operational data, rather than having the technology provider dominate service operations.
