Volkswagen plans to use the China-developed electrical/electronic (E/E) architecture, developed in collaboration with Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng, as the technological foundation for future models of its three core brands: Volkswagen, Skoda, and Cupra. Currently applied to models in the Chinese market, this architecture will be extended to mainstream models in Europe, covering approximately three-quarters of the next-generation models across the three brands. This move may marginalize its U.S. partner, Rivian. Thomas Schaefer, head of the core brands, is expected to present the plan to the management on Tuesday.
