On October 20, U.S. financial media outlet Semafor reported that Waymo is expanding its autonomous taxi service to more cities and plans to significantly increase the size of its self-driving fleet using $5 billion in recently borrowed funds. According to sources familiar with the matter, Waymo currently operates around 4,000 vehicles, with expectations to grow to 8,000 by the end of this year and further to 20,000 by the end of next year. Waymo declined to comment, but stated in an official announcement on its website that the funds raised are intended to drive business expansion both domestically and internationally.
