On October 11, Chery Automobile released a statement addressing problems identified in the 2023 OMODA 5 models in Malaysia. It was found that the welding strength of the rear axle longitudinal arms in this batch of vehicles falls short of the required standards. Under extreme conditions, there is a possibility that the welds may tear. Chery's Malaysian subsidiary has already initiated a recall for 8,878 affected vehicles. Concurrently, risk investigations have also been launched domestically (presumably referring to China, where Chery is headquartered) to further assess the situation.
