On September 24 (local time), German luxury automotive brand Porsche announced a key breakthrough in its pilot high-voltage battery recycling project, developed in collaboration with German recycling company cylib. For the first time, the project has fully utilized recycled materials extracted from decommissioned high-voltage batteries to manufacture cathode active materials for new battery cells. These cells are currently undergoing comprehensive real-world vehicle testing, with complete results expected to be released in the second half of 2026. Launched last year, the project has now entered its third phase, achieving complete substitution of virgin raw materials with recycled active materials. Starting May 2026, Porsche will launch a unified recycling network for decommissioned high-voltage batteries across Germany, employing cylib's water-based process to achieve over 90% metal recovery rates. Recycled materials will be fully traceable through dedicated accounts, with plans to integrate them into mass-produced battery cell manufacturing from 2028 onward.
