IM Motors has officially acknowledged the existence of the previously leaked engineering test vehicle that lacks a traditional steering wheel. Built on the cutting-edge technology slated for the upcoming next-generation IM LS6, which is about to enter the pre-sale phase, this vehicle embraces steer-by-wire technology. This innovation severs the mechanical link between the steering wheel and the wheels, instead relying on electrical signals to control steering.

Its comprehensive steer-by-wire four-wheel steering system can execute steering commands in a mere 20 milliseconds, a speed ten times faster than the average human reaction time. This rapid response meets the stringent demands for swift and precise steering execution in L3 and L4 advanced intelligent driving scenarios. Drawing inspiration from aviation steer-by-wire systems, the vehicle incorporates multiple redundant designs, including dual power supplies, dual communications, and dual hardware backups. In the unlikely event of a dual failure in the front-wheel steering linkage, the rear-wheel steering can step in as a tertiary redundancy layer. This robust design achieves the highest automotive functional safety level, ASIL D, with a failure rate of only one in every 100 million hours of continuous operation.
