On September 8, in response to the MIIT's announcement designating the Xiaomi Pengcheng N90 Max Explorer Edition as a "plug-in extended-range hybrid cultural lifestyle service vehicle," Xiaomi Automobile clarified that this designation is the official term used in the announcement, adhering to national standards. In actuality, the vehicle is categorized as a small special-purpose passenger vehicle. For private car owners, it is mandatory to undergo an online inspection at a motor vehicle safety technical inspection institution before registering their new vehicle. The inspection encompasses various aspects, including appearance, lighting, exhaust emissions, brakes, seat structure, tire size, vehicle dimensions (length and width), weight, and environmental protection standards. The duration for registration varies depending on the on-site circumstances. Additionally, the cost associated with registration is higher than that of a standard small passenger vehicle, primarily due to the extra fee incurred from the online inspection. However, all other daily usage policy requirements remain consistent with those applicable to regular small passenger vehicles.
