On September 9, reports emerged indicating that the sales data for new vehicles in China during August had been released by Japan’s three leading automakers—Toyota, Nissan, and Honda—all revealing double-digit year-on-year decreases. Specifically, Toyota sold 118,400 vehicles, marking a 22.8% decline from the same period last year and its seventh consecutive month of year-on-year sales decreases. Nissan’s sales reached 28,275 vehicles, down 51.9% year-on-year, representing its fifth consecutive month of decline. Honda sold 26,749 vehicles, experiencing a 49.9% drop year-on-year and marking its 31st consecutive month of falling sales. Analysts noted that the price competition among Chinese electric vehicle (EV) companies is intensifying, with EVs offering substantial price advantages and attracting a larger consumer base. This trend has contributed to the ongoing sluggish sales of fuel-powered vehicles from Japanese automakers.
