Mercedes-Benz has responded to market controversy surrounding the new long-wheelbase GLE, addressing questions regarding its vehicle development pace, intelligent features for fuel-powered cars, localization adaptations, and driving experience, while emphasizing the pursuit of balance between technological iteration and quality commitment. In response to criticism over the slower pace of new model launches, Mercedes-Benz stated that during the R&D process, the new vehicle completed nearly 5 million kilometers of road testing, including over 1.1 million kilometers in China. The body manufacturing underwent multiple rigorous processes and tests, requiring time for mechanical refinement. In terms of intelligent features for fuel-powered cars, the new GLE is equipped with the Momenta R6 model, enabling nationwide highway assisted driving in urban areas, with future OTA upgrades to provide full-scenario navigation capabilities. The infotainment system integrates a virtual assistant powered by Doubao AI's large model, supporting multimodal interaction and recognition of 32 dialects, while retaining mechanical four-wheel drive, air suspension, and six driving modes. For localization adaptations, the new vehicle features a 120mm extended wheelbase, with rear-seat legroom exceeding 1 meter. The seat cushions are thickened and equipped with massage functions. The rear-seat entertainment system was developed primarily by a Chinese team, with the brand increasing the weight of related configurations due to higher Chinese consumer demand for rear-seat space. Regarding driving experience, the 3.0T engine is equipped with an electric auxiliary supercharger, controlling turbo lag within 0.3 seconds. The air suspension scans the road surface 500 times per second, with four-wheel drive torque distribution accuracy reaching 98%. The moose test score improved by 6% compared to the previous generation, while NVH performance has also been optimized. In the first half of 2024, the Mercedes-Benz GLE held a 12.3% market share in the luxury mid-to-large SUV segment, ranking second, with the long-wheelbase version contributing 68% of sales. This technological upgrade is seen as a response to competition from domestic new energy brands, with its intelligent fuel-powered car strategy serving as a key observation point for traditional luxury brands' transition.
