On September 7, Cui Dongshu, the Secretary-General of the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), published an article providing an in-depth analysis of car price reductions in 2026. According to the data, in August 2026, a total of 10 vehicle models underwent price reductions, marking a decrease of 13 compared to the same period in the previous year. Among these, there were 2 pure fuel vehicle models, 3 fewer than before, and 6 pure electric vehicle models, representing a reduction of 8.

Cui Dongshu highlighted that fuel vehicles and extended-range models are currently under significant market pressure, making price adjustments a reasonable strategy. When examining the overall scenario from January to August 2026, a total of 100 vehicle models experienced price reductions, which is 36 fewer than the same period in the previous year. Specifically, 36 conventional fuel vehicle models saw price cuts, maintaining the same number as the previous year; 5 hybrid fuel vehicle models had price reductions, an increase of 1; 22 plug-in hybrid fuel vehicle models underwent price adjustments, also the same number as before; 6 extended-range models saw price cuts, a decrease of 4; and notably, 31 pure electric vehicle models had their prices reduced, a significant drop of 33.

In terms of pricing trends, from January to August 2026, the average price of new energy vehicle models that underwent price reductions was RMB 264,000, with an average price cut of RMB 30,000, representing an 11.5% decrease. By August, the average price of these new energy vehicle models had further dropped to RMB 256,000, but the average price reduction had increased to RMB 45,000, marking a substantial 17.8% decrease.
