At the 2026 World Dynamic Battery Conference, Wang Fang, the Lead Scientist at the China Automotive Technology and Research Center, disclosed that the development of three national standards—focusing on the performance, safety, and longevity of solid-state batteries for electric vehicles—has commenced, with drafts slated for public review and feedback by the year's end. Presently, the standardization framework for Solid-State Batteries in Electric Vehicles is segmented into four distinct sections. Notably, the standard governing terminology and classification has already been put into effect. This standard categorizes battery types according to electrolyte morphology, employing 'semi-solid-state batteries' and 'all-solid-state batteries' as synonymous terms for 'hybrid solid-liquid batteries' and 'solid-state batteries,' respectively, to enhance clarity and consistency in the industry.
Moreover, China has taken the lead in formulating the world's first international standard in the realm of solid-state batteries, which received approval from the International Electrotechnical Commission in August of this year. Industry experts emphasize that solid-state battery technology has now transitioned into the engineering application phase, underscoring the pivotal role of standardization in guaranteeing product excellence and fostering collaborative efforts within the industry. The newly initiated series of standards will encompass a wide array of essential technical specifications, thereby offering robust technical backing for the research, development, manufacturing, and testing processes of solid-state batteries.
