A spokesperson for the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated on Thursday that the agency is assessing Tesla's 'Cybercab' self-driving taxi service. Previously, Tesla had been offering ride services in a limited area of Austin, Texas. The Cybercab is a two-seater autonomous vehicle without a steering wheel, pedals, or rearview mirrors, which are typically required by federal safety regulations. The NHTSA spokesperson told Reuters that they are in contact with Tesla and evaluating the situation, but did not provide further details.
