On September 3, The Wall Street Journal reported that Ford Motor Company has set an ambitious target: selling over 100,000 units of its new Fathom electric pickup truck within the first year of its production. Priced starting at approximately $30,000, the vehicle is slated for launch next year and will be manufactured on a newly constructed assembly line in Louisville, Kentucky. Previously, only Tesla has managed to achieve such a sales milestone in the U.S. market. However, Wall Street analysts and certain Ford dealers have raised concerns regarding the market reception of the Fathom. With the gradual phasing out of the $7,500 federal tax credit, the U.S. electric vehicle market has witnessed a downturn. According to data from industry research firm MotorIntelligence, electric vehicles accounted for 5.7% of total U.S. auto sales in August, a decrease from 10.3% year-on-year, with overall sales declining by 48% compared to the same period last year.
