Google has seamlessly integrated its Gemini AI assistant into Waymo's Ojai autonomous taxis, which are specifically tailored for ride-hailing services. Presently, Ojai is accessible to the public in major cities such as Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Francisco, with further expansion plans to include Denver, Las Vegas, and San Diego later this year. Looking ahead, passengers will have the option to choose between Ojai and Jaguar I-Pace autonomous taxis for their travel needs.
Within the vehicle, Gemini functions as an in-car AI assistant, currently undergoing Beta testing. Passengers can effortlessly interact with Gemini using voice commands to adjust the cabin temperature, locate nearby points of interest, gather information about local landmarks, or even request the vehicle to pull over (a request that is processed by the Waymo Driver system). It's important to note that Gemini operates independently of the Waymo Driver and does not have access to real-time driving data or the ability to directly control the vehicle. Waymo is committed to continuously refining Gemini's features to elevate the overall passenger experience.
