Tesla is currently in the process of building a large-scale, two-phase charging facility at 405 East St. Elmo Road in Austin, Texas, USA. This strategic move is anticipated to play a pivotal role in the Cybercab autonomous taxi system. In the initial phase, the plan is to install 48 V4 Superchargers, which will be powered by 12 V3.5 Supercharger cabinets. The subsequent phase will focus on constructing the necessary infrastructure to support 80 wireless chargers.

This location, which was previously a Tesla logistics operation area, is undergoing a significant transformation. Charging stations, transformers, and other essential facilities are being installed to upgrade the site. Tesla envisions the Cybercab eventually adopting wireless charging technology, and this facility is designed with that future in mind. Initially, it will provide charging services for the existing Model Y Robotaxi fleet and early Cybercab models. Moreover, it will lay the groundwork for the implementation of automatic wireless charging in the future.

At present, Tesla is gearing up for the Cybercab launch event and has extended invitations to current Robotaxi users to take part. Eligible ride activities are set to continue until August 23, and the list of selected participants will be made public on August 25. It is widely expected that the event will take place in Austin either in late August or early September.
