On August 13, Meituan officially launched the inaugural version of its 'Pause Timer at Traffic Light' feature for food delivery couriers in Beijing, marking the completion of the initial phase of on-road trials. This function underwent internal testing on specific routes in Beijing during the first half of the year and is presently undergoing pilot implementation on select roads within Chaoyang District, Tongzhou District, and the Economic and Technological Development Zone. When couriers come to a halt at a red light at an intersection, the system will automatically log the waiting period and adjust the estimated delivery time accordingly, alleviating the mental strain associated with traffic light delays. Wuxi has pioneered the nationwide adoption of this feature, encompassing 4,253 intersections. Furthermore, over 20 cities, including Shanghai and Hangzhou, are in the process of assessing the feature, with plans to extend its coverage to more than one million couriers within the current year.
