The intelligent driving blue light, a blue external indicator light for vehicles that was originally invented by Mercedes-Benz, later popularized by Li Auto, and subsequently adopted by numerous automakers, is now facing significant rectification. This move comes in response to its non-compliance with national standards and potential safety risks. According to the declaration requirements outlined in the 410th batch of product announcements by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, starting from July 27, 2026, new vehicle models equipped with this blue light will no longer receive approval. The initial purpose of the blue light was to signal that the vehicle was operating in intelligent driving mode. However, due to the absence of unified standards, problems such as misuse of the light, glare interference, and unclear responsibilities have emerged. Presently, the National Technical Committee of Auto Standardization is actively working on formulating and revising relevant national standards, with completion anticipated in the second half of 2027. At present, there is no mandatory requirement to remove the blue light from vehicles already on the market, but future adjustments could be implemented through methods such as Over-The-Air (OTA) upgrades.
