The cooling North American electric vehicle market has forced South Korean battery companies to adjust their expansion pace in the US. Reuters reported on the 11th that South Korean battery manufacturer Samsung SDI has decided to terminate its battery joint venture agreement with General Motors in Indiana. According to the agreement, Samsung SDI will acquire the 49.99% stake held by General Motors, and the original joint venture factory, Synergy Cells, will transition to full operation by Samsung SDI. The factory was originally a key project for both parties in their US electric vehicle battery layout (layout), but in May of this year, Reuters reported that construction progress had slowed due to a weakening market environment. Samsung SDI stated in its announcement that the equity adjustment was based on market changes since the project's official announcement, particularly the lower-than-expected growth in electric vehicle demand. Both parties have decided to terminate the original joint venture model and explore new cooperation methods.
