Tesla Vice President Tao Lin shared Elon Musk's strategic announcement, revealing that Tesla will make the design data and software for the Model S and Model X publicly available. This move aims to enhance technical transparency and bolster repair support capabilities. Earlier, Musk had stated that Tesla would no longer accept new custom orders for these two models globally, a decision widely interpreted as a step toward phasing them out of Tesla's core product lineup.
Currently, Tesla is redirecting its strategic focus towards "physical AI." The production lines at the Fremont factory, previously dedicated to manufacturing the Model S and Model X, have been repurposed for the production of the Optimus humanoid robot. Looking ahead, Tesla plans to ramp up investments in areas such as humanoid robots, autonomous driving technologies, and AI chips, with the automotive business continuing to rely on the Model 3 and Model Y as its primary sales drivers.
The decision to release design data also underscores Tesla's commitment to reallocating resources towards AI-driven next-generation intelligent hardware and robot ecosystems, marking a significant evolution in the company's strategic direction.
