On August 5, industry data indicated that Tesla, the renowned U.S. electric vehicle (EV) maker, has held onto its crown as the top-selling imported passenger vehicle brand in South Korea for six months in a row up to July. Data from the Korea Automobile Importers Association showed that 30,976 imported passenger vehicles were newly registered in South Korea during July, representing a 14.3% year-on-year surge. Of these, Tesla sold 10,237 units, maintaining its market-leading position since February. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and BYD secured the second, third, and fourth positions, with sales figures of 6,533, 3,959, and 2,846 units, respectively. Spurred by robust demand for EVs from brands like Tesla and BYD, electric vehicles made up almost half of the total imported passenger vehicle registrations in July, hitting 15,428 units.
