On August 4, news emerged that the compulsory national standard titled Safety Requirements for Autonomous Driving Systems in Intelligent Connected Vehicles (GB 44721—2026), developed and overseen by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, was officially promulgated on July 30. Implementation of this standard is slated to commence on July 1, 2027. This marks China's pioneering compulsory national standard specifically tailored for L3 (conditional autonomous driving) and L4 (highly autonomous driving) systems.
