On July 29, reports surfaced indicating that the installation of the “little blue light” for intelligent driving on newly certified passenger vehicles is now strictly prohibited. This decision comes as the light fails to comply with the GB4785-2019 “Installation Requirements for External Lighting and Light-Signaling Devices of Motor Vehicles and Their Trailers.” According to this standard, only white, yellow, red, and amber are permissible colors for external vehicle lighting, with blue being explicitly excluded. The China Automotive Technology & Research Center emphasized that the improper use of the “little blue light” can easily lead to safety hazards on the road.

In response, automakers such as Geely, VOYAH, and Avatr have acknowledged the situation and are currently awaiting further guidance. Expert Zhang Hong from the Circulation Association clarified that while the use of the “little blue light” is prohibited for newly certified vehicle models, it remains legal for use on existing vehicles. To ensure compliance, automakers will need to make adjustments for new vehicles. This could involve implementing OTA (Over-the-Air) upgrades or reverting to compliant lighting solutions to indicate intelligent driving status.
