Media reports, including those from the Financial Times, suggest that Waymo, the autonomous driving subsidiary of Alphabet, is considering ending its partnership with Uber. The two companies had previously joined forces to incorporate Waymo's self-driving taxis into Uber's ride-hailing network, offering services in Austin and Atlanta. Waymo has communicated to Uber its intention to begin providing services directly through its own app in these two cities from January 2028 onwards. However, Uber has clarified that the existing contract between the two entities is set to expire in May 2028. Earlier in the year, the collaboration in Phoenix was also terminated ahead of schedule by mutual agreement or otherwise. Recently, relations between the two firms have become strained, with Uber expressing concerns over the safety of Waymo's vehicles and adopting divergent positions on policies governing autonomous driving.
