Tesla’s third-generation Optimus humanoid robot is nearing its final form, with CEO Elon Musk giving the green light to its latest design during a high-level executive meeting in late June. This approval signals the robot’s imminent transition into mass production. Tesla has recently circulated detailed component procurement guidelines to its supply chain partners, mandating them to scale up production capacity to 1,000 units per week by September of this year, with further plans to ramp up output to between 2,000 and 2,500 units weekly by year’s end. To date, Tesla has secured orders for several hundred Optimus units in August alone, and suppliers are anticipated to achieve an annual supply capacity of 100,000 components by the end of 2024. Musk has issued a clear directive to the team: meet the production capacity targets by the end of the year, or face the disbandment of the entire Optimus procurement division.
