On the morning of July 9, 2026, He Xiaopeng, the Chairman and CEO of XPENG Group, shared in a post that he had taken on the role of the inaugural user for XPENG's internal Robotaxi trial. He embarked on a smooth and uninterrupted ride, marking the first successful integration of the entire process—from online ride-hailing to offline travel. XPENG first revealed its Robotaxi initiative in November of the previous year, commenced regular road tests in January of the current year, and produced its first mass-manufactured vehicle in May, achieving a full-chain operation in a mere eight months. This vehicle stands as China's pioneer in being fully self-developed, factory-installed, and mass-produced Robotaxi.
Based on XPENG's flagship model GX, the vehicle is outfitted with four self-developed Turin AI chips, boasting a computing capacity of up to 3000TOPS. It incorporates the second-generation VLA large model, empowering it with L4-level autonomous driving capabilities. In January of this year, XPENG secured the road test license for intelligent connected vehicles in Guangzhou and, in March, established the Robotaxi Business Department to supervise the entire operation.
The vehicle is also equipped with privacy glass, zero-gravity seats, and a large rear-seat entertainment screen. Passengers can adjust the air conditioning and more through the voice assistant Xiao P, offering a wide array of intelligent experiences. XPENG anticipates that internal users, Guangzhou residents, and tourists visiting the city will have the opportunity to experience this Robotaxi service in the near future.
