Chery Automobile has recently completed the formal acquisition of Nissan’s longstanding automotive manufacturing plant in Roslyn, South Africa—a site with a rich history spanning nearly six decades. Chery has earmarked millions of U.S. dollars for upgrading the factory and expanding its equipment, with production projected to commence in mid-2027. Once fully operational, the plant will boast an annual production capacity of 50,000 units during a single shift, accommodating a range of models including fuel-powered, hybrid, and fully electric vehicles. Moreover, Chery has pledged to retain all 692 existing employees and generate nearly 3,000 new job opportunities, setting its sights on achieving annual sales exceeding 100,000 units in the South African market.
