Data compiled by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), based on information from the General Administration of Customs, reveals that in May 2026, the total import and export volume of automotive products in China soared to US$29.46 billion. This marks a 4.9% increase from the previous month and a significant 17.6% rise year-on-year. Specifically, the import value climbed to US$3.61 billion, representing a 21.1% month-on-month surge, though it experienced a 17.7% decrease compared to the same period the previous year. Meanwhile, the export value reached US$25.85 billion, up 2.9% from the previous month and a robust 25.0% higher year-on-year. During the first five months of 2026, the cumulative total import and export volume of automotive products across the country amounted to US$132.92 billion, reflecting a 23.4% increase year-on-year. Among these figures, the cumulative import value was US$15.86 billion, showing a 10.2% decrease year-on-year, while the cumulative export value stood at US$117.06 billion, marking a 30.0% increase year-on-year.
