According to sources familiar with the matter, the Trump administration plans to propose amendments to the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), requiring that at least half of the components and raw materials in automobiles must originate from the United States as a condition for enjoying low-tariff treatment under the agreement. This move would significantly increase the proportion of U.S. content in automobiles under the agreement's framework. Currently, the agreement only requires that three-quarters of the vehicle's materials originate from the North American region, without setting specific content requirements for the United States.
