On May 28, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna disclosed that, despite facing widespread criticism over the exterior design of its inaugural electric vehicle, the ‘Ferrari Luce,’ the company has witnessed a surge in orders from both loyal and new customers. This electric car, priced at a substantial €550,000 (around $638,660), has managed to attract considerable interest. This week marked Ferrari’s first full reveal of the Luce’s exterior design. The all-electric vehicle’s design marks a stark departure from Ferrari’s traditional and iconic aesthetics, drawing numerous comparisons to existing electric models—most of which have been unfavorable. Consequently, Ferrari’s stock price experienced a downturn. Nevertheless, setting aside the appearance of this four-door, five-seater model, which was designed under the guidance of former Apple Chief Product Designer Jony Ive, its ultimate success or failure will largely depend on Ferrari’s dedicated customer base. These customers are already well-acquainted with Ferrari’s ‘limited production’ approach, where output consistently falls short of market demand. Vigna mentioned that orders have been flooding in from both long-time and first-time buyers. He also justified the Luce’s premium price, emphasizing that innovation always comes with a price tag.
