Elon Musk revealed during an earnings call that the Hardware 3 installed in Tesla vehicles produced before 2023 cannot support unsupervised full self-driving capabilities due to its memory bandwidth being only one-eighth that of Hardware 4. For customers who have already purchased the FSD service, Tesla has proposed two solutions: trade-in discounts for new vehicles or hardware upgrades. Additionally, Tesla plans to establish 'micro-factories' in densely populated areas to accelerate the hardware upgrade process. Currently, some users have expressed dissatisfaction with Tesla for not fulfilling its FSD promises, and the company is even facing a class-action lawsuit in Australia over this issue.
