Tesla has rolled out 14 wheel-less Cybercabs at its Gigafactory in Texas, signifying a pivotal shift from the research and development phase to real-world operation in its robotaxi initiative, thereby expediting the commercialization of fully autonomous driving. These Cybercabs, already outfitted with wheels and tires meeting mass production standards, boast a streamlined interior design. Having undergone preliminary validation, they are now poised for large-scale production. Tailored exclusively for autonomous driving, the Cybercab's design omits manual control mechanisms, offering a host of benefits. Nevertheless, adhering to U.S. federal safety regulations, its annual production is restricted to 2,500 units, prompting Tesla to seek regulatory waivers. Suspicions arise that these vehicles are earmarked for the Austin pilot scheme, with the potential for additional new models to emerge from the assembly line following an anticipated acceleration in production line velocity on April 20.
