Recently, amidst the vibrant celebrations of the Water-Splashing Festival in Jinghong City, Yunnan, an incident involving a GAC Toyota bZ3X all-electric SUV captured public attention. The vehicle was forcibly opened by onlookers and subsequently doused with water. On April 17, GAC Toyota released an official statement detailing the investigation results. Following professional assessments, it was confirmed that the vehicle's three-electric system—comprising the battery, motor, and electronic control unit—along with its circuits, remained fully operational and posed no safety risks.
The vehicle's owner, Mr. Wei, clarified that at the time of the incident, the air conditioning system was activated inside the car. The "white smoke" observed was actually condensation formed when cold air from the AC encountered water vapor during the water-splashing, rather than an indication of any vehicle malfunction. In response to the incident, GAC Toyota has proactively arranged for complimentary cleaning, dehumidification, and preparation services to ensure the owner's vehicle is restored to optimal condition and that his return journey is safe and hassle-free.
It has been reported that the owner had not engaged the automatic locking feature while the vehicle was in motion, a factor that inadvertently allowed the doors to be opened from the outside.
