On Tuesday, consulting firm Benchmark Mineral Intelligence (BMI) released data indicating that, propelled by escalating fuel costs, sales of pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in Europe skyrocketed by 37% year-on-year in March, reaching an all-time high of nearly 540,000 units. Concurrently, in the global market, new vehicle registrations for pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles experienced a 3% year-on-year increase in March, surpassing 1.7 million units in total. This marked the first instance of growth this year. BMI highlighted that the soaring gasoline prices served as the primary catalyst for this sales surge. Countries grappling with substantial energy price hikes, such as Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, and Thailand, witnessed remarkable growth in electric vehicle registrations.
